A poly-L-lactic acid biostimulator that supports collagen production
What Is Sculptra
Sculptra is an injectable product containing poly-L-lactic acid, an absorbable substance used in medicine and aesthetics. It belongs to the biostimulators: it does not act as an instant filler but supports the skin's own collagen production, so volume is restored gradually. It is used for age-related loss of volume and skin laxity.

Answers to the most common questions about this procedure
-
What is Sculptra and who is it suitable for?
Sculptra is an injectable product containing poly-L-lactic acid, an absorbable substance that supports the skin's own collagen production. It is a biostimulator rather than an instant filler: volume is restored gradually as collagen forms at the injection site. It is used for age-related loss of volume and skin laxity. Whether the treatment is suitable for you is assessed by your doctor at a free consultation, based on your health and findings. The result is temporary.
-
How much does Sculptra cost in Poděbrady?
According to the price list, Biostimulation with Sculptra is CZK 12,000 per 5 ml. Your doctor determines how much product and how many sessions you need based on your findings, so we confirm the total price in advance at a free consultation rather than during the treatment.
-
What concerns is Sculptra used for?
It is used for loss of facial volume and for skin laxity that comes with age. The aim is to support collagen production and gradually improve the support of the soft tissues. Sculptra is not intended for an immediate change of shape, because the effect develops gradually. Your doctor assesses at the consultation which area and approach match your findings.
-
What is the difference between Sculptra and a hyaluronic acid filler?
A hyaluronic acid filler adds volume directly, as a gel, and can be dissolved with the enzyme hyaluronidase. Sculptra does not add volume itself but stimulates collagen formation, so the change comes gradually and has no specific dissolving agent. They are two different methods with different goals, not a more expensive and a cheaper version of the same thing. Your doctor will assess at a free consultation which one matches your findings.
-
Does Sculptra hurt and how does the treatment work?
How it feels varies from person to person, and some patients describe pressure and a pinch rather than pain. Depending on the area, a numbing cream can be applied beforehand. The product is placed with a fine needle or cannula in the deep layer of the skin or beneath it at pre-planned points. If you are sensitive, tell us in advance and the approach will be adjusted.
-
When will I see the result and how long does it last?
The change does not happen overnight, because new collagen forms gradually over weeks to months. For the first days swelling can distort the shape. The result is not permanent: poly-L-lactic acid is absorbed and collagen continues to change. How long the change lasts for you depends on your age, your skin, the extent of the treatment and your lifestyle, so an exact duration cannot be promised in advance.
-
How many sessions will I need?
Sculptra is usually applied over several sessions spaced apart, so that collagen formation builds up. Your doctor sets the number of sessions and the interval based on your findings and the goal of the treatment, and may adjust them according to how the tissue responds. You will learn what this means in your case at a free consultation, before the treatment.
-
What are the risks and side effects?
Swelling, redness, small bruises and tenderness are common after the injection and settle within a few days. Palpable nodules or lumps may develop, even weeks to months later; your doctor assesses how to manage them. Infection at the injection site and serious complications, such as a blocked blood vessel, are rare. If you notice severe pain, blanching or a change in skin colour, or a vision disturbance, contact us at once on +420 777 879 849; for a vision disturbance, seek emergency medical care.
-
How should I prepare and how should I care for my skin afterwards?
In the days before the treatment, avoid over-the-counter painkillers containing acetylsalicylic acid or ibuprofen, vitamin E and alcohol, as they increase the risk of bruising; your doctor will advise how long. Do not stop any medication prescribed by your doctor, especially blood thinners, on your own; talk to your treating physician first. Come to the appointment without make-up. Your doctor will give you aftercare instructions, which may include gentle massage of the treated area and limiting exercise and sauna in the first days.

Who is Sculptra not suitable for?
The treatment is not performed during pregnancy or breastfeeding, during an active infection or inflammation in the treated area, or if you have a known allergy to a component of the product. For a tendency to form keloid or hypertrophic scars, autoimmune conditions and bleeding disorders, the doctor decides individually. The treatment is also not performed in people with a history of severe allergic reactions (anaphylaxis). Tell us in advance if you tend to get cold sores or have had a previous filler or thread in the area. That is why we discuss your health, allergies and medication at the consultation before the treatment.
