Fine absorbable threads placed in the skin

What Are Mesothreads

Mesothreads are thin absorbable threads that are placed in or just beneath the skin with a fine needle. They are made of an absorbable material, most often polydioxanone (PDO); your doctor chooses the material. They are intended for skin quality, not for lifting tissue. The threads are gradually absorbed by the body. They are reported to stimulate collagen production around the thread.

Frequently Asked Questions

Answers to the most common questions about this procedure

  • What are mesothreads and who are they suitable for?

Mesothreads are thin absorbable threads that are placed in the skin with a fine needle. They are used to care for skin quality and are not a lift. The threads are reported to stimulate collagen production where they are placed. Whether the treatment is suitable for you is assessed by your doctor at a free consultation, based on your skin and your health. The threads are absorbed, so the result is temporary.

  • How much do mesothreads cost in Poděbrady?

According to the price list, mesothreads are CZK 2,000 per 4 threads. Your doctor determines how many threads you need based on your findings and the area, so we confirm the total price in advance at a free consultation rather than during the treatment.

  • What is the difference between mesothreads and thread lifting?

Mesothreads are thin threads intended for the skin; they work on its quality and do not lift tissue. Thread Lifting uses different threads placed beneath the skin to support soft tissue and facial contours. They are two different methods with different goals, not a smaller and a larger version of the same thing. Your doctor will assess at a free consultation which one matches your findings.

  • What concerns are mesothreads used for?

They are used to care for fine lines and for skin quality and elasticity. The aim is to improve the look of the skin, not to lift the face or change its shape. Your doctor determines the area and the number of threads based on your findings and assesses at the consultation what suits your skin.

  • Does placing mesothreads hurt and how does the treatment work?

How it feels varies from person to person, and some patients describe a pinch and pressure at the insertion points. Depending on the extent of treatment, a numbing cream can be applied beforehand. The threads are placed in the skin with a fine needle at pre-planned points. If you are sensitive, tell us in advance and the approach will be adjusted.

  • When will I see the result and how long does it last?

A change in skin quality does not happen overnight but develops gradually. For the first few days, swelling and marks from the insertion can affect how the skin looks. The threads are absorbed, so the result is not permanent. How long the change lasts for you depends on your age, your skin, the extent of treatment and your lifestyle, so an exact duration cannot be promised in advance.

  • How many threads and treatments will I need?

Your doctor sets the number of threads and treatments based on your skin, the treated area and your goal. The price list gives the price per 4 threads, so we confirm the total in advance at a free consultation. You will learn how many threads and treatments that means in your case before the treatment.

  • What are the risks and side effects?

Redness, swelling, small bruises and tenderness are common after placement and settle within a few days. Temporary unevenness, skin dimpling, or a thread that can be felt or seen under the skin may occur, and the doctor assesses this once the swelling has gone down. Infection, a nodule (granuloma), shifting of a thread or its extrusion to the surface, and in exceptional cases nerve injury may occur. If redness or pain get worse, or if you notice a pus-like discharge or fever, contact us on +420 777 879 849.

  • How should I prepare and how should I care for my skin afterwards?

In the days before the treatment, avoid over-the-counter painkillers containing acetylsalicylic acid or ibuprofen, vitamin E and alcohol, as they increase the risk of bruising; your doctor will advise how long. Do not stop any medication prescribed by your doctor, especially blood thinners, on your own; talk to your treating physician first. Come to the appointment without make-up. Your doctor will give you aftercare instructions, for example limiting exercise and sauna in the first days.

  • Who are mesothreads not suitable for?

The treatment is not performed during pregnancy or breastfeeding, during an active infection or skin inflammation in the treated area, or if you have a known allergy to the thread material. For a tendency to form keloid scars, autoimmune conditions, bleeding disorders or treatment with blood thinners, the doctor decides individually. The treatment is also not performed in people with a history of severe allergic reactions (anaphylaxis). Tell us in advance if you tend to get cold sores or have had a previous filler or thread in the area. That is why we discuss your health, allergies and medication at the consultation before the treatment.
