Absorbable threads to support facial contours

What Is Thread Lifting

Thread lifting is a treatment in which absorbable threads are placed beneath the skin to support the soft tissues of the face. The threads are inserted with a needle or cannula. Absorbable threads are used, for example made of polydioxanone (PDO), poly-L-lactic acid (PLLA) or polycaprolactone (PCL); your doctor chooses the type. The thread is also reported to stimulate collagen production. It is a minimally invasive treatment, not a surgical facelift.

Procedure Duration

Depends on the extent of treatment

Results

Temporary effect, duration varies

Recovery

Your doctor will explain at the consultation

The threads are absorbed by the body, so the effect is temporary. The treatment does not replace surgery: with more pronounced skin laxity, your doctor may recommend a different approach. An overview of non-surgical options is on the Facial Rejuvenation Without Surgery page.

What It Is Used For

Supporting contours

Supporting soft tissue in the areas of the face that your doctor determines based on your findings.

Mild tissue laxity

The treatment is intended more for milder laxity; your doctor assesses suitability.

Combination with other methods

Whether and how to complement the treatment with another method, such as a filler or laser, is assessed by your doctor.

Limits of the method

With pronounced skin laxity, thread lifting may not be sufficient and your doctor may recommend a different approach.

Your doctor discusses your goals, the condition of your tissues, health, allergies and medication, and assesses whether the treatment is suitable.

2

Preparation

The skin is cleansed, the thread paths are marked and local numbing is arranged.

3

Thread placement

The threads are inserted beneath the skin with a needle or cannula along the planned paths.

4

Aftercare

Your doctor explains aftercare. Swelling, bruising and tightness in the treated area are common and gradually settle.

Frequently Asked Questions

Answers to the most common questions about this procedure

  • What is thread lifting and who is it suitable for?

Thread lifting is a treatment in which absorbable threads are placed beneath the skin to support the soft tissues of the face. It is a minimally invasive treatment, not a surgical facelift. The threads are also reported to stimulate collagen production. Whether the treatment is suitable for you is assessed by your doctor at a free consultation, based on the condition of your tissues and your health. The threads are absorbed, so the effect is temporary.

  • How much does thread lifting cost in Poděbrady?

According to the price list, thread lifting is CZK 20,000 to 30,000. Your doctor determines how many threads and what extent of treatment you need based on your findings, so we confirm the final price in advance at a free consultation rather than during the treatment.

  • What is the difference between thread lifting and mesothreads?

Thread lifting uses threads placed beneath the skin to support soft tissue and facial contours. Mesothreads are thin threads intended for the skin; they work on its quality and do not lift tissue. They are two different methods with different goals, not a larger and a smaller version of the same thing. Your doctor will assess at a free consultation which one matches your findings.

  • Is thread lifting a substitute for a surgical facelift?

No. Thread lifting is a minimally invasive treatment that supports the tissue, but it does not replace a surgical procedure, and it may not be sufficient with more pronounced skin laxity. At the consultation your doctor assesses your findings and tells you whether thread lifting, another non-surgical method, or a consultation with a surgeon is the appropriate step. It is not a treatment that can always replace an operation.

  • Does thread lifting hurt and how does the treatment work?

How it feels varies from person to person, and tenderness and a pulling sensation around the threads are common afterwards. The treatment is usually performed under local anaesthesia. The threads are inserted beneath the skin with a needle or cannula along the planned paths. If you are sensitive, tell us in advance and the approach will be adjusted.

  • When will I see the result and how long does it last?

For the first few days, swelling and tightness in the treated area can distort the shape, so the result is judged only after they settle. The threads are absorbed, so the effect is not permanent. How long the change lasts for you depends on your age, the condition of your tissues, the extent of treatment and your lifestyle, so an exact duration cannot be promised in advance. Your doctor will advise whether and when to repeat the treatment.

  • What are the risks and side effects?

Swelling, bruising, tenderness and a feeling of tightness are common after the treatment and settle over days to weeks. Temporary asymmetry, skin dimpling, or a thread that can be felt or seen under the skin may occur. Infection, a nodule (granuloma), shifting of a thread or its extrusion to the surface, and in exceptional cases nerve injury may occur. If pain or redness gets worse, or if you notice a pus-like discharge or fever, contact us on +420 777 879 849.

  • How should I prepare and what should I do afterwards?

In the days before the treatment, avoid over-the-counter painkillers containing acetylsalicylic acid or ibuprofen, vitamin E and alcohol, as they increase the risk of bruising; your doctor will advise how long. Do not stop any medication prescribed by your doctor, especially blood thinners, on your own; talk to your treating physician first. After the treatment your doctor will give you instructions, which may include limiting facial expressions, avoiding facial massage, limiting exercise and a comfortable sleeping position.

  • How many threads and treatments will I need?

Your doctor sets the number of threads, their paths and any repeat treatment based on the condition of your tissues, the treated area and your goal. The price list gives the price of the treatment as a range, so we confirm the final price in advance at a free consultation. You will learn what this means in your case before the treatment.

  • Who is thread lifting not suitable for?

The treatment is not performed during pregnancy or breastfeeding, during an active infection or skin inflammation in the treated area, or if you have a known allergy to the thread material. For a tendency to form keloid scars, autoimmune conditions, bleeding disorders or treatment with blood thinners, and for pronounced skin laxity, the doctor decides individually. The treatment is also not performed in people with a history of severe allergic reactions (anaphylaxis). Tell us in advance if you tend to get cold sores or have had a previous filler or thread in the area. That is why we discuss your health, allergies and medication at the consultation before the treatment.
